MM.JR.EQ. Policies + General Information
SCHEDULE
Our program offers lessons on Monday and Tuesday of each week, unless otherwise arranged. One season of riding takes place September through the end of May. Each weekly lesson is 90-minutes in length, and are limited to small groups so as to ensure rider (and equine!) safety and maximum attention to each class participant. Lessons may be cancelled due to weather (thunder-storms, 32 degrees and below, or snow!). Make-up lessons are not available unless the farm cancels lessons directly.
TUITION
Monthly tuition is $195.00, due by the first of each month. If payment is not received by the 14th of each month, a late-fee of $25 will be added to that month’s tuition. Because of limited space (and a waiting list!) riders must participate for the entire season.
CANCELLING LESSONS
If you are unable to come to your lesson, please call in advance. You may call the farm directly at 704-841-0602, or Erica at 203-901-6035. Make-up lessons are not available, unless otherwise arranged. If your rider is absent for 3 or more lessons with NO phone call, your lesson spot will be offered to a rider on our waiting list. If your rider needs to take a leave of absence from lessons for any reason, please talk to Erica about holding her spot.
TARDINESS
Please call the farm at 704-841-0602, or Erica at 203-901-6035 (can text too!) if you are running late for your lesson. We completely understand the traffic situation on Providence Road and will do everything we can to accommodate. However, if you are 30 minutes late with no call/text, your rider’s horse will be put back in his/her pasture.
WEATHER POLICIES
Lessons may be cancelled due to weather (thunder-storms, over 94, below 32 or snow!). You will be contacted directly in the event that lessons are cancelled by the farm. Make-up lessons are not available unless the farm cancels lessons directly.
ATTIRE & EQUIPMENT
Riders do not need their own saddle or brushes for their horses – all of that will be provided. However, please wear appropriate attire including paddock boots (with a heel!), long pants, and a safety-approved helmet. See the gear list for more specifics and a list of resources from which to purchase riding apparel from. Capri pants and shorts are not allowed. Please note that your clothes could get “kissed” by our wonderful horses, so leave your Sunday Best at home! Also, please label all clothing and riding equipment with rider’s name – we often have a lot of stuff that is “left behind.”
ETIQUETTE
There are many things that can startle horses that we may not be aware of. Please make certain that there is no running, jumping, screaming or otherwise disrupting behavior by riders or guests. Also, please do not play in the streams or lakes - our beautiful farm is also home to snakes and snapping turtles - and we don't want anyone to get hurt!
DOGS
Many horse lovers are also dog lovers – we are! However, please leave your wonderful canine companions at home. Respectfully, we will keep all dogs who live on the farm out of the way of the lesson program, and ask that you do the same.
MISTY MEADOWS MITEY RIDERS
Misty Meadows Farm is home to a unique therapeutic riding program called the Mitey Riders. This program offers equine-assisted therapy to 70 special needs children each week. It is because of this wonderful program that we have so many great horses for your kids to learn on, and it is also because of this program that we are unable to offer riding lessons on days other than Monday and Tuesday. Please respect the handicapped parking, wheelchair ramps and other special equipment that may exist on the farm for these riders. Click [here] to learn more about Misty Meadows Mitey Riders.
